Water is the basic element for us to live. This resource allows us to reduce poverty, that an area can grow economically and that there is environmental sustainability. To make people aware of the importance of freshwater, World Water Day is celebrated every year (March 22nd). Also so that we all know the importance of good management of this liquid.
Although we have all heard that it is very important, without realizing it in our daily lives we do a series of actions that make us spend more liters than we really need. It is calculated that on average each house in Spain spends 130 L a day. This shows that we need to put into practice a series of actions to reduce this consumption immediately.

Easy tips to save water:
- When you are brushing your teeth, shaving or washing your hands, turn off the tap. This way, you will save up to 6 liters per minute.
- Put a full bottle inside the toilet cistern so that not as much water comes out every time you flush. At the same time, check that there are no leaks and that the chain closes properly when the tank is emptied.
- Instead of throwing the toilet paper in the toilet, throw it in a trash can. Do not throw cigarettes or other items in the trash either.
- Instead of taking a bath, take a shower and reduce the time you spend in the shower as much as possible. While you are soaping yourself, you should also turn off the tap.
- Put a diffuser in the shower, so you can reduce to half the liters you spend without noticing.
- When you put on a washing machine or dryer, make sure they are full to the brim. Also use programs that spend less.
- If you have a dripping faucet, fix it, so you avoid wasting about 40 liters a day.
- You can install a stop end on the water pipes to reuse it, for example for watering or scrubbing the floor.
- Change the watering system of your garden, instead of using the sprinklers put a drip system. Also, if you run it in the afternoon or evening, you will prevent water loss through evaporation. Use this system for large areas and water the smaller ones by hand.
- To avoid having to leave the tap on until it gets cold to fill a glass, fill a jug and keep it in the fridge.
- If you install a liquid meter you will have real data to make you aware of the real expense you have. This way you will be able to check if you are saving with the measures you are putting into practice.
- Buy appliances and other household devices that use it efficiently when you have to change one. Nowadays there are many products that allow us to save.
- If you have an outside area in your house, use the broom to clean that area instead of the hose.
- For those who have a pool at home, we recommend that they cover it up when not in use. This way it won’t get so dirty, evaporate and you’ll have to spend less money on refilling or replacing it.
- When you have to defrost some food, don’t do it with hot water. Take it out of the freezer several hours before having to cook it and leave it in the fridge. This way, apart from saving money, you will keep its taste.
As you can see, these are easy things for everyone to do. In a short time you will be able to reduce your bill. Your pocket and the planet will thank you.
